Mosel Fine Wines: The 2018er Scharzhofberger Riesling GG is a legally dry wine made from up to 50 year-old vines situated in the upper part of the vineyard. It offers a superbly refreshing and deep nose made of grapefruit, lime, spices, pear, and tangerine. The wine is nicely balanced on the palate, where juicy fruits are well wrapped into zesty acidity. The finish is slightly tart at this early stage but highly promising as there is great sense of freshness running through the wine. The after-taste is fully dry but also slightly on the powerful side. 2023-2033
Vinous: The intensely peachy nose anticipates the piquancy of pit and prickle of peach fuzz whose combination lends vibrancy and invigoration to the otherwise polished, indeed silken palate. Scents of thyme and mint transform into a cooling inner-mouth influence, while grapefruit and lime lusciously convey a brightness that is unexpected for the vintage and that belies this wine’s mere 7.3 grams of total acidity. A noticeable effect of that relatively low acidity is the highly supportive hint of sweetness that is engendered by seven grams of residual sugar, and that reinforces its sense of succulence. It finishes with a vibrancy that sets the tongue aquiver and a sweet-saline savor that milks the salivary glands. - David Schildknecht, Juli 2020
