Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: From 60- to 130-year old vines that are partly trained on single poles, the 2018 Saarburg Riesling Trocken Alte Reben is very fine and subtle on the bright, complex, flinty nose with its crunchy slate aromas. The palate is lush and round yet very complex and long, with a vitalizing mineral structure/grip and lemon-fresh, salty-mineral acidity. Very long. Impressive Riesling. Tasted in June 2019. - Stephan Reinhardt, Aug. 2019
Vinous: The recent proliferation of legally dry Zilliken bottlings finds this “old vines” offering two rungs up from the estate’s generic Riesling trocken, though I tasted neither that entry-level offering, nor the interim bottling: a “regular” Saarburger Riesling trocken. Crushed stone and wood smoke as well as a meadow’s worth of grasses and flowers garland lime and white peach on an alluring nose. The midpalate is polished and lusciously fruity. At 11.5% alcohol, there is a lovely sense of lift that beautifully complements bright juiciness and animation not typical of 2018. This finishes with impressive persistence, encompassing ample intrigue and refreshment. - David Schildknecht, Juli 2020
