Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes exhibits notes of cherries, grilled squab, dark chocolate and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate that's rich and succulent, with a sweet core of ripe fruit and powdery structuring tannins, concluding with a long finish. - William Kelley, Feb. 2020
Allen Meadows' Burghound: This is the first wine to exhibit any appreciable reduction. More interesting are the caressing, refined and nicely rich medium weight flavors that exude a subtle and refreshing salinity on the dusty and slightly chewy finish. This is awkward and not especially well-balanced and thus it's not clear whether this will harmonize in time. - Allen Meadows, Jan. 2020
Vinous: The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes 1er Cru includes no whole bunch and is matured entirely in new oak. I have to admit that the 100% new wood dominates the nose and speaks more of the cooperage than the vineyard. The palate is ripe and a little chewy on the entry, the fruit just about able to support the oak, although I cannot help thinking that 50% or 60% new oak would have suited it better. - Neal Martin, Jan. 2020
