Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets has a more mineral-driven, tensile bouquet than the Fremiets. There is a palpable sense of energy from the very start, scents of blackberry and wild hedgerow, almost slate-like scents that lurk underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, finely pitched acidity and it displays more rondeur than the Fremiets thanks to its caressing, très Volnay finish. Excellent. - Neil Martin, Dez. 2017

94 / 100

Wine Spectator: Juicy and tangy, featuring a chorus of black cherry, black currant, violet and stony mineral aromas and flavors. Supple in texture, underscored by a firm structure. Sweet spice notes grace the long, resonant finish. Very energetic. Best from 2023 through 2040. - Apr. 2019

91-93 / 100

Allen Meadows' Burghound: An overtly spicy and ultra-pure nose offers up a beautifully layered mix of plum, dark currant, violet and a whiff of sandalwood. The lacy, indeed even silky flavors also flash ample minerality on the youthfully austere finish that delivers outstanding depth and persistence. Like the Frémiets, this beautifully balanced and classy effort should be more than capable of amply rewarding extended keeping. - Allen Meadows, Apr. 2018

93-95 / 100

Vinous: (the yield was down 25% due to the frost): Very dark ruby-red. Pure, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, violet and crushed rock. A step up in sucrosité and pliancy, offering an almost voluptuous texture to its dense flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, minerals and violet. Verging on chocolatey in its ripeness but holds its shape nicely. Finishes with extremely fine tannins, a slight medicinal reserve, strong saline minerality and superb length. Carrying the highest pH among these 2016s, this beauty conveys a wonderfully relaxed impression without any obvious signs of overripeness. - Stephen Tanzer, Jan. 2018
