Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 2014 Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Angles, Marquis d'Angerville

The 2014 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles has clearly coalesced on the nose since I tasted it from barrel, much more harmonious now with brambly red fruit, cold limestone and hints of blood orange adding a little more richness than I anticipated. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate weight in the mouth, the tannins quite firm and just a touch abrasive at the moment, although they will soften with bottle age. There is plenty of freshness on the finish, although it does not possess the nervosité of Guillaume d'Angerville's premier crus on the finish. - Neil Martin, Apr. 2016

Allen Meadows' Burghound - 2014 Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Angles, Marquis d'Angerville

An airy, cool and admirably cool nose mingles notes of both red and dark pinot fruit aromas with those of earth and wisps of dried flowers. The lilting and attractively detailed medium weight flavors are really quite fine, indeed almost delicate while offering fine length on the lacy finish. - Allen Meadows, Apr. 2016

Vinous - 2014 Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Angles, Marquis d'Angerville

(from vines planted in the 1960s; the crop level here was just 18 hectoliters per hectare): Good medium red. Very ripe aroma of chocolate-covered raspberry. Tactile and sweet, projecting strong cherry/berry fruit but a bit short on finesse. Finishes with substantial chewy, chocolatey-ripe tannins. Makes a satisfying mouthful already but this premier cru has the concentration and extract to age. - Stephen Tanzer, Jan. 2016
