Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 2017 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese*** weisse Kapsel, Markus Molitor

The 2017 Riesling Zeltlinger Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (White Capsule) is AP 40, whereas the corresponding wine for the auction is AP #42. This is deep, clear and elegant on the intense nose, which displays complex but refined aromas of concentrated citrus fruits and ripe peaches intermixed with slight toast and flint notes. On the palate, this is a full-bodied yet pure, clear, fresh, refined and tightly woven Sonnenuhr with well-dosed power, very fine tannins and some oak flavors intertwined with crystalline acidity and persistent mineral tension. This is a sleeping giant with lingering, concentrated fruit and thrillingly piquant, mouthwatering salinity. This 2017 Sonnenuhr Auslese will even improve over the years in the bottle. Tasted in March and April 2019. - Stephan Reinhardt, Jun. 2019

Mosel Fine Wines - 2017 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese*** weisse Kapsel, Markus Molitor

The 2017er Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (White Capsule) offers a most beautiful nose made of pear, tangerine, yellow peach, grapefruit zest, aniseed herbs, ginger and fine spices. The wine proves gorgeously multi-layered on the fruity yet tart palate and leaves a stunningly long feel of tart grapefruit in the vibrant and saline finish. The after-taste adds even a touch of minty freshness. This is a grandiose dry Riesling in the making! 2027-2042. - Okt. 2018

Vinous - 2017 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese*** weisse Kapsel, Markus Molitor

A generous nose anticipates the abundance of fruit and flowers that characterize this wine throughout. Heady heliotrope and honeysuckle perfume meet jellied pear and white peach. Luscious apple, pear and peach deploy on a palate seductively illustrative of site-typical inner-mouth perfume and creaminess, yet with an animatingly juicy influx of grapefruit. A subtly cooling inflection of green herbs, inner-mouth floral perfume, and savory, iodine-tinged crustacean savor cap an alluring and sensationally long-lingering performance that will almost certainly gain yet greater complexity with time in bottle. - David Schildknecht, Jan. 2020
