The 2017 Riesling Ockfener Bockstein Auslese *** (White Capsule) is bright, deep and elegant on the nose, with perfectly ripe white-fleshed stone fruit and pineapple scents intertwined with very fine toast aromas. Concentrated, intense and juicy on the palate, with lots of flesh and the crystalline precision of broken slate, this is a generous but pure, close-meshed, highly elegant and finessed Auslese with pink grapefruit and raisin flavors on the persistently salty finish. This concentrated and densely textured Bockstein reveals great energy and finesse with filigreed mineral tension and lingering, mouthwatering salinity. The finish is intense and delicate at the same time. A fabulous, not really dry but dry-styled Riesling of great complexity. The 2017er Ockfener Bockstein Auslese *** (White Capsule) offers a rather backward nose with a hint of volatile acidity and some sulfur still marking the otherwise bold scents of yellow peach, pear, tangerine and earthy spices. The wine is delicately smooth yet multi-layered on the very intense palate and leaves an almost powerful herbal feel in the assertive finish. This bold wine will please lovers of powerful expression of drytasting Riesling. 2027-2037. - Okt. 2018

Vinous - 2017 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Auslese***weisse Kapsel, Markus Molitor

This was one of the last-bottled Auslesen of its collection and displays unusual, almost crunchy fresh-fruitedness along with zest and piquancy of fruit skin and zest, with pear, apple and orange predominating. Unusual too – not to mention striking – are invigoratingly nippy allusions to cress and oregano, on the nose but especially on the midpalate, where, together with the aforementioned freshness, zest and piquancy, they offer contrast with a creamy underlying texture. The vibrant overall effect is not in the least inharmonious. The superbly sustained finish is remarkably transparent to underlying wet stone. - David Schildknecht, Jan. 2020
