Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: Sourced from two parcels on the blue slate soils of Abtsberg, the 2015 Maximin Grünhäuser Pinot Noir has a deep and intense cherry bouquet with elegant and spicy/refreshing slate aromas. Aged for 18 months in one-year-old and two-year-old barriques, this is a full-bodied, lush and fruity, silky textured and intense Pinot Noir with a lot of charm but also firm tannins. This is a promising Pinot Noir, probably the finest that has been produced in Grünhaus. - Stephan Reinhardt, Apr. 2017
Vinous: The 2014 shocked me with how successful it was (and in particular with how it resisted the new and newish wood in which it was raised), and the 2015 follows suit, if with a tad less charm. A high-toned nose suggests almond and pistachio extracts mingled with kirsch. Juicy dark cherry fruit is accompanied on a polished, even subtly creamy palate by a mouthwatering evocation of beef marrow. The finish is seriously sustained, with a faint hint of warmth from the 13.5% alcohol but an intriguing hint of iodine and a wet stone undertone uncannily reminiscent of a Ruwer Riesling. Naturally, I am merely speculating as to this wine’s aging potential. There is nothing to compare it with, much less a track record. (For considerable background on von Schubert Pinot Noir, consult the review of the 2014 that accompanies my coverage of the 2015 vintage Grünhaus Rieslings.) - David Schildknecht, März 2018
