Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From the Pettenthal, Hipping and Ölberg, the 2018 Nierstein Riesling is still a bit reductive on the nose and needs time to open up. On the palate, this is a juicy, intense and still somewhat untamed dry Riesling with intense fruit and a crystalline mineral structure. Powerful but elegant and refined, very long and complex. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020. - Stephan Reinhardt, Mai 2020
Vinous
An elusive amalgam of musky, fusel and marine elements piques interest on the nose and put me in mind of Ölberg, though in fact most of the fruit for this bottling came from Hipping and Pettenthal. But there is also an appealingly sachet-like suggestion of dried citrus peels and flowers. Abundant bright citric juiciness emerges on a polished palate that reflects the wine’s aromatic multiplicity. A sweet-saline raw-scallop-like savor adds rich, mouthwatering appeal to the lingering and refreshingly sustained finish. Here is the one instance outside of vineyard-designated wines where I found a Kühling-Gillot 2018 held its own against – indeed, was superior to – its vintage 2017 counterpart. Perhaps that’s why the usual order of presentation was reversed and I was served this subsequent to the corresponding Nackenheimer. - David Schildknecht, Nov. 2020
