Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Nackenheim Rothenberg Wurzelecht Riesling "GG" is clear, precise and herbal on the stony, crunchy, highly finessed and complex nose. Rich and intense on the palate, this is a dense and juicy, very long and generous, powerful yet refined Rothenberg with a long and complex, very salty finish. This is another long-distance runner from H. O. Spanier. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020. - Stephan Reinhardt, Mai 2020
Vinous
The combination of smoky, stony and marine elements here – on both nose and palate – is fascinating as well as entirely consistent with those exhibited by this wine’s vintage 2017 predecessor. But here they are accompanied by zesty intimations of the tangerine and lemon that emerge to enliven the palate. There is a faint bit of stiffness, seemingly from influence of slightly newer-than-usual wood. (And this is definitely one of the many German Riesling estates to have invested recently in renewing casks.) The penetratingly persistent finish delivers tongue-tingling invigoration, mouthwatering salinity and ample intrigue as well as sheer refreshment. - David Schildknecht, Nov. 2020
Mosel Fine Wines
The 2018er Rothenberg Wurzelecht GG, as it is referred to on the consumer label, does only offer some reductive notes of herbal spices, popcorn and hay at first. These gradually give way to more charming and complex scents of grapefruit, candied lemon, mint and smoke. The wine is rather primary and packed with citrusy flavors on the tight and dense palate, and leaves a rather herbal and tart feel in the very long finish. This is still very much work in progress and will need quite some years to develop more finesse and charm. It could then well exceed our expectations. 2026-2038. - Okt. 2019
