The 2022er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Alte Reben, as it is referred to on the front label (the reference to GG is found on the back label and on the bottle itself), comes from very old un-grafted vines in the prime Gewann Laychen (central part) and Sandpichter (near Zeltingen) sectors, and was fermented with ambient yeasts and aged in oak for 12 months. Initially impressively smoky and minty, it delivers fresh and aromatic notes of citrusy fruits, acacia, orange blossom, aniseed, freshly cut herbs, greengage, and ginger. The wine has great presence on the palate, where some juicy white and yellow fruits are wrapped in zesty acidity, lots of spices, and aniseed. The finish is straight, pure, and vibrating. This is an impressive, aromatic, and racy GG. 2028-2037. - Dez. 2023
