Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Very fine and elegant on the radiant nose, the 2017 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Spätlese (AP #5) –Versteigerung– offers an excitingly cool and herbal bouquet with earthy, lime, minty, citrus and eucalyptus aromas intertwined with very clear and delicate notes of crushed and weathered slate. On the palate, this is a rich, lush and concentrated, sweet but very piquant and structured Spätlese with remarkable elegance and finesse. The finish is very long yet pure and salty, revealing stimulating grip. Tasted in June 2019. - Stephan Reinhardt, Aug.2019
Vinous
This largely later-picked auction lot of Braune Kupp Spätlese reflects greater botrytis concentration than does its “regular” A.P. #4 counterpart. There is an unusual combination of singed and dried purple plum with tomato purée, further allied to the honeyed impression of botrytis. The feel is creamy and oily, and while this wine is in no way plump, its acidity is hidden away, resulting in less brightness than experienced from the A.P. #4. It could well be that this hyper-concentrate simply needs more time to display diversity and achieve greater clarity. Certainly its sheer grip is formidable. - David Schildknecht, Okt. 2019
Mosel Fine Wines
The 2017er Wiltinger braune Kupp Spätlese AP05 was harvested at well above 95° Oechsle, i.e. into Auslese territory, and this shows on the aromatic profile. While still backward, the wine develops a hugely complex and refined nose of melon, pear, vineyard peach, apricot blossom and smoky slate. It is beautifully elegant and playful on the palate, where the wine develops the full playful creamy yet also lively side of a clean and delicately fruity Auslese. The finish is creamy and leaves one with a beautifully zesty feel in the after-taste. This is a gorgeous light Auslese (in all but name) in the making. 2027-2047 - Auction Guide 2018
