2017 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Auslese*** goldene Kapsel

The 2017 Riesling Ockfener Bockstein Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) displays an enormously concentrated, spicy and fungal bouquet of lemon confit and dried and stewed apricots. Still reductive, this wine needs a lot of aeration. The palate is intense, sweet, fine, terribly fresh and piquant, with great precision and raciness. This Auslese is made of botrytis grapes that concentrated everything the berry had to give: sugar, extract and this dead-awakening acidity. I'd recommend cellaring this wine for 15 to 20 years before you start slowly enjoying it. This will probably merit a higher score in 20—and surely in 30—years. Vinous
Apple jelly and marzipan along with candied orange and lime peels on the nose anticipate the decidedly confectionary aspects delivered on the palate of this vinous concentrate. But bright juiciness of lime and orange supply unexpected animation, which, along with restrained residual sugar, guarantees that there will be nothing in the least cloying about this performance. Moreover, the vibrant, lusciously lingering finish delivers mouthwatering salinity and even a hint of underlying stone. - David Schildknecht, Jan. 2020

Mosel Fine Wines
The 2017er Ockfener Bockstein Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) offers a gorgeous nose still marked by sulfur behind which one already finds some great scents of grapefruit zest, cassis, wrapped into almond paste. The wine is beautifully oily and delicately creamy on the zesty palate and leaves a stunning feel of apricot in the long and vibrant finish. This is a beautiful dessert wine in the making. 2027-2052. - Okt. 2018
