Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From Keller's very steep hillside plot with high density plantings, the 2015 Nierstein Hipping Riesling has a lovely, clear, precise and smoky/flinty bouquet with a delicate concentration and red slate flavor. This Hipping is an intense and round, enormously juicy, yet fine and persistent Riesling. It has tension, grip and purity on the palate. This is a great, lush and beautiful wine that is among the very best produced in Nierstein in 2015. Not full dry, it will go for at least two decades. Yield was 28 hectoliters per hectare, so very small quantities here. - Stephan Reinhardt, Aug. 2016
Vinous
Like its Pettenthal counterpart, this bottling from the old former Franz Karl Schmitt vines in Niersteiner Flächenhahl was picked early, before the cold snap, and was allowed to finish legally halbtrocken (in this case, with 17 grams of residual sugar). Its density is accompanied by infectious primary juiciness of lime, orange and white peach, as well as a welcome and surprising sense of transparency and lift, in all of those respects far surpassing the corresponding Pettenthal. Quinine, smoky black tea, cooling green herbs and crushed stone add fascination to a finish of ravishingly nuanced complexity and extraordinarily sheer persistence. - David Schildknecht, Nov. 2017
