Thanisch's 2015 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett is very clear and still reductive on the nose, with flinty sulfur notes, bright fruit aromas and very good definition. Round, lush and juicy but also fine, mineral and salty, this is a delicate, filigreed and elegant Kabinett with a good mineral structure and a mouthwatering salty finish. Vinous
The cooling mint and incisive nips of cress observed in some other Thanisch bottlings from this vintage are, rather surprisingly, also present in a Doctor wine, as is downright refreshing primary juiciness. That said, the opulently ripe fruit character – tending toward honeydew and Persian melons – as well as musky narcissus scents and textural richness on a glycerol-slicked palate are all typical Doctor. Mosel Fine Wines
This needs a few minutes in the glass to develop a nice flowery nose underlined by white peach, mint and smoke. This proves quite a “tour de force” as it combines intensity and complexity with ethereal lightness on the palate and delivers all its great flavors with great airiness in the long finish. Patience will be required as this wine will only shed its shyness and gain in presence at maturity, which will not happen before a good decade. However, it should then prove a stunning expression of Bernkasteler Doctor. 2025-2045. - Okt. 2016
