The 2012er Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spätlese with AP 02 was released via the VDP Trier Auction in 2013. This still comparatively light-yellowcolored wine offers a superbly captivating and beautifully fresh nose of menthol, citronella, verbena, green herbs, vineyard peach, white flowers (especially acacia), lime, a hint of gooseberry, orange blossom, and cassis. The wine shows beautiful purity and finesse on the palate, where a great sense of light and fresh exotic fruits joins the party. Yet the wine remains magnificently airy and refined and leads to a hugely dynamic and energetic finish. The aftertaste is all about spices and lime with great Saar steely raciness, so that the overall balance is already well off-dry rather than fully sweet.
