Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Riesling trocken Geheimrat J comes from a "problematic growing year" with an "extremely small harvest," reports Michael Burgdorf from Wegeler in Oestrich. The vintage started cold into May, flowering was in mid-June, the summer was hot, ripening began mid-August and harvest took place from October 5 to 22. "We had to play for time and select the grapes carefully. For Geheimrat J, healthy grapes with 90° to 97° Oechsle came primarily from the Rothenberg, Morschberg and St. Nikolaus vineyards," Burgdorf quotes his notes from the cellar book. The wine opens with a dense, fresh, intense and deeply spicy nose with iodine aromas and notes of broken rocks. Clear, fresh and vital on the palate, with lots of energy and positive restlessness, this is a dense, tightly meshed, even taut and long-lasting Riesling with great length and structure. Tasted as part of the big Geheimrat J vertical in Wiesbaden, January 2024. - Stephan Reinhardt, Apr. 2024
