Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2011 Maximin Grunhauser Herrenberg Riesling Auslese Fuder #83 (which, for the record, carries the A.P. #31) was harvested well into November, thus representing the second generation of botrytis, not to mention significantly more of it than accrued to this year’s two corresponding “regular” Abtsberg Auslesen, let alone to either of those from Herrenberg reviewed in this report. An intriguing nose of peanut butter and caramel candy, overripe Persian and musk melons, honey and white raisin, sets the themes for a gaudily ennobled, sweet, expansive, creamy and buoyant palate impression. Like the Abtsberg Auslese Fuder 15, though, this harbors a welcome hint of juicy fresh citrus to keep its soothing finish from becoming saccharine. If the finish here carried more of what complexity is presented in the nose – or, of course, if the entire performance gained in diversity and nuance – I would be encouraged to suggest one hold it longer, but as things stand I suspect this will be best enjoyed by 2025, and then by those with a decidedly sweet tooth. - David Schildknecht, Okt. 2013
