Wittmann's to-be-auctioned 2021 "La Borne" Riesling Alte Reben offers a deep, pure, fresh and very chalky bouquet that intertwines with ripe and concentrated lemon notes; the nose is puristic and almost ascetic but on the other hand also very exciting for exactly the same reasons. On the palate, this is a silky, or better velvety, round, refined and elegant La Borne with intense, lush and charmingly textured fruit structured by fine and silky limestone acidity, fine tannins and a persistent, uplifting salinity. The La Borne is probably the most adored at this stage, but it is rare and (most probably) expensive and most of the readers will never taste it. The 2021er “La Borne” Riesling Alte Reben, as it is referred to on the consumer label, comes from a parcel planted with old vines in the Grand Cru Westhofener Morstein. It offers a gorgeously elegant and floral nose of aniseed herbs, bergamot, blueberry, cassis, vineyard peach, cardamom,and fine spices. The wine is very pure and elegant on the palate. A very delicate and creamy side gives way to clean zesty and minty elements in the hugely long and refined yet still racy finish. The finesse in this wine is quite breathtaking and it is a huge success in this vintage! 2026-2041+. - Dez. 2022
