No longer blended with the Chalumeaux into Matrot's erstwhile cuvée Quintessence, the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne unfurls with notes of crisp green orchard fruit, citrus oil and hazelnuts. It's medium to full-bodied, ample and incisive, with more mid-palate volume than the Chalumeaux and more acidity too, lending the wine a more reserved profile. - William Kelley, Feb. 2020
Allen Meadows' Burghound - 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Garenne, Thierry et Pascale Matrot
An elegant nose features notes of cool green fruit, poached pear and mineral reduction along with background hints of citrus peel. There is once again very good verve and delineation to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that brim with minerality on the youthfully austere, clean and notably dry finale.
