Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: From three parcels with vines averaging 25+ years of age, the 2017 Riesling Höllberg GG offers super ripe and intense tropical fruit aromas intertwined with flinty-mineral notes. Juicy, piquant, refined and mineral on the palate, this is an already accessible dry Riesling with fine tannins and good grip, but the wine stays more in your cheeks than in the throat. Very attractive but not that long or tensioned. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020. - Stephan Reinhardt, Mai 2020
Wine Spectator: Elegant and spicy, with a prominent peach note accented by pine and mineral details. Well-made, featuring intense acidity, depth and complexity. A bit tight, but builds nicely to the mouthwatering finish. Best from 2022 through 2029. 300 cases made. - Jul. 2019
Vinous: Apple seed and wet stone on the nose anticipate a somewhat austere palate impression, though fortunately not one lacking in fresh apple and pear juiciness. The feel here is subtly waxy. Fruit skin chewiness lends invigorating tang to a finish whose simultaneous richness seamlessly perpetuates the wine’s midpalate impression, and to which alkaline and stony notes lend fascinating counterpoint. Not for the first time, I prefer the exuberance and sheer sensual appeal of the ostensibly lesser “Porphyr” bottling, but time may bring an extra measure of depth to this Höllberg.
