Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2017 Mölsheim Zellerweg Am Schwarzen Herrgott Riesling GG is coolish and flinty on the precise, fresh and reductive nose that is less open or generous than the Kirchenstück. On the palate, this is a crystalline, salty-piquant, super tensioned and sustainable dry Riesling with grip and loads of crushed stones and salts. Lemon fresh and aromatic on the finish. Impressive wine. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020. - Stephan Reinhardt, Mai 2020

Vinous: It’s hard not to conclude that something about the iron-rich limestone soils in this Rheinhessen sector (as opposed to the chalky-white ones around Flörsheim) lends its wines their combination of smoky, stony and marine elements, noticeable here on the nose, where scents of piquantly seed-tinged fresh apple and zesty grapefruit further anticipate the flavors to come. In common with several other Battenfeld-Spanier 2017s, this bottling is remarkable not just for the sheer sense of density and concentration projected midpalate (albeit without heaviness), but also for its combination of bright, almost pulpy citric concentration with underlying textural richness. It finishes with vibrant persistence and a promise of greater things to come with time in bottle. - David Schildknecht, Jul. 2019
