The 2017 Ungeheuer G.C. is clear, bright and flinty on the pure and very well defined, deep and generous, concentrated nose with its delicate raisin flavors. Intense and salty-piquant on the palate, this is a concentrated, round yet enormously vibrant and tensioned Riesling that still shows some lactic notes. This wine is far too young and still gripping and even a bit drying, but it's highly promising in its clear, crisp and bone-dry finish with its lingering salinity. Needs time and patience. Vinous - 2017 Forster Ungeheuer Riesling Q.b.A. trocken Edition G.C., Dr. Bürklin-Wolf

Here is a wine that, when tasted from tank in mid-November 2018, lived up to Libelli’s warning that the 2017s would at that stage be aromatically restrained. But certainly there are site-typically green herbal and stony notes. In the mouth, this big-boned, broad-shouldered, palpably extract-rich Ungeheuer offers an impressive bath of herbs and a slurry of finely milled stone, leading to a forceful finish. Time will hopefully bring focus and flavor diversity to match the imposing size and density. (Marjoram and black pepper have added to the pungency and piquancy I described in reporting from cask on the impressively forceful 2016 Ungeheuer. From bottle it essentially performs in accord with that earlier assessment, still needing time to shed a bit of reduction and perhaps also some of its rusticity.) - David Schildknecht, März 2019
