Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2017 Riesling EMT (Auction) is pure and mineral on the concentrated nose. Firm, lush and refined on the palate, with good grip and tight structure, this is a salty-piquant yet persistent dry Riesling with firm tannins and a long aftertaste. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020. - Stephan Reinhardt, Mai 2020

Mosel Fine Wines: The 2017er Riesling EMT was harvested from a 45 year-old parcel in the original part of the Siefersheimer Heerkretz (EMT is not the name of a parcel but a reference to the name of the previous owner of this particular parcel). Slightly restrained at first, it only gradually reveals a light and aromatic nose of pear, yellow peach and some minty herbs. The wine is juicy and smooth on the light -footed palate driven by herbs and some tartness. A hint of power and even some heat comes through in the long finish, which makes us opt to drink this young, in its fruit phase. 2020-2027

Vinous: Although the pungency and piquancy of pear seed and peach kernel grab one’s aromatic attention, on the polished, glossy palate there follows a generous outpouring of juicy, invigoratingly tangy, skin-tinged ripe fruit. Suggestions of green herbs and white tea add intrigue and allure. The vibrancy of this wine’s bell-clear, superbly sustained finish extends to a sparkling sense of active, stony mineral impingement, which, when taken with the aforementioned tang, veritably shakes up the mouth. What a startling sense here of vinous energy transmission! Unfortunately for Wagner’s regular customers as well as the rest of us, bound as we all are by the gavel price, certain retail merchants aggressively bid up the price of this year’s “EMT.” And given the track record that this extremely limited bottling has already accumulated in its three vintages, I fear that its price will never come back down from the stratosphere. (For details concerning Wagner’s “EMT” bottling and its source, consult my review of the corresponding 2015.)
