Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: Enormously fruity and tropical on the nose, the 2017 Riesling Scharlachberg GG is concentrated and piquant. It reveals an intense and persistently salty, firmly structured, dense and dry palate with enormous vitality and salinity on the finish. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020. - Stephan Reinhardt, Mai 2020

Wine Spectator: A bit muted at first, this white is very closed right now, but aeration reveals elements of lime, tangerine, dragon fruit and chrysanthemum tea. Offers a silky texture and a powerful structure. Give this time. Best from 2022 through 2030. 100 cases made. - Jul. 2019

Vinous: Zesty lime, bruised apple skin and a hint of parsnip make for a pungently penetrating aromatic display. The palate is correspondingly marked by tartness and tang, but otherwise polished and glossy. The finish grips with piquancy, chewy acerbity and pronounced site-typical smokiness, yet not without delivering a welcome, refreshing measure of sheer juiciness. These vines, incidentally, were largely spared the April frost. (For considerable detail on the source of Wagner’s Scharlachberg bottling and how he came to access it, consult my tasting note on the inaugural 2016 rendition.)
