Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 2016 Wiltingen VOLZ Riesling Grosses Gewächs Q.b.A. trocken, Van Volxem

The 2016 Volz Riesling offers flinty, piquant fruit on the nose with ripe Riesling and crunchy slate aromas. Lush, round and very elegant on the palate, this is an already accessible but very complex and refined Riesling with a long minerally, beautifully piquant and salty finish. Impressive! Tasted March 2018. - Stephan Reinhardt, Apr. 2018

Mosel Fine Wines - 2016 Wiltingen VOLZ Riesling Grosses Gewächs Q.b.A. trocken, Van Volxem

Volz refers to a former single-vineyard classified in the highest category on the taxation maps in the 19th century and which is part of the Wiltinger Braunfels today. This offers a gorgeous nose of pear, grapefruit zest, fine herbs and spices. The wine proves gorgeously smooth and refined on the palate and leaves a beautifully clean and fresh feel of herbs, grapefruit, pear and minerals in the long finish. 2019-2026 - Okt. 2017

Vinous - 2016 Wiltingen VOLZ Riesling Grosses Gewächs Q.b.A. trocken, Van Volxem

Here is one of those instances at this address (Wawerner Goldberg being another) where a pronouncedly mineral aspect evident already on the nose is highly elusive, so that “ore-like” is the best descriptor I can manage to muster. Gentian, fennel and grapefruit zest further accent ripe white peach in the nose and on a creamy, palpably dense, yet buoyant and brightly juicy palate. Incisive pepper cress and mustard seed lend intense invigoration to a mouth-shaking and mouthwateringly salt-infused finish that also perpetuates the sense of saturation by some sort of earthy, intriguing ore, mingled with graphite as well as alkali and crushed stone. This remarkable (and, I suspect, long-lived) Riesling from a prime spot in the Braunfels makes quite a contrast with the charm of Niewodniczanski’s Wiltinger Riesling sourced from other parts of that same Einzellage. - David Schildknecht, März 2018
