It shows the marvelous flinty and herbal flavors of the Würzgarten, as well as the perfect concentration of ripe and healthy Riesling berries. This offers a stunningly vibrant nose of cassis and other red berry fruits, all wrapped into a superb touch of lemony whipped cream. The wine made in a light Auslese style is hugely animating on the palate and incredibly zesty and captivating in the long mouthwatering finish. There is huge depth here and at the same time, there is lightness and playfulness. This is a textbook “Auslese” from the Würzgarten. 2025-2045+. - Auction Guide 2016

Vinous - 2015 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel Versteigerung, Dr. Loosen

Fresh strawberry and kiwi are accompanied on the nose by suggestions of quince jelly and honey that point to the presence of botrytis (“but not much,” said Schug) and shriveled-berry concentration. The palate is correspondingly confitured, glossy and honeyed, while the finish introduces notes of smoke, stone and spice that help offset the wine’s sweetness even as they add interest. This year’s gold capsule rendition of Ürziger Würzgarten is categorically different from the corresponding “regular” bottling and for now less charming. But this luscious libation from the estate’s oldest Würzgarten vines is certainly imposing and likely to gain significantly from bottle age. - David Schildknecht, Jun. 2017
