The 2015 Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese (AP #9) is beautifully clear, intense and piquant on the complex and elegant nose, which displays a great mix of tropical fruit, honey and Scharzhofberg slate with fine botrytis flavors. Round, lush and salty, this is a gorgeously rich, yet pure and piquant Auslese. It has great complexity and elegance. As in 2014, there is but a single Müller Scharzhofberger Auslese (albeit also an “Auslese Goldkapsel”) from 2015. White peach, pear and quince garlanded in rowan and honeysuckle inform a heady nose and a luscious, creamy, glycerol-rich palate. Bright, penetratingly intense fruit essences are joined by incisive fresh cress, bittersweet candied lime peel and crystalline stony impingements, all of which serve for vibratory animation, while confectionary notes of almond paste and salted caramel generate not only enhanced richness but also saliva-inducement.
